Police
There seems to be a two tier Police force. There is the Tourist Police that have a better command of English and provide a basic service to visitors and locals. Make sure if you are travelling on a social visa that you register. The regular Police seem to have little or no interest in what’s going on. The Police do target foreigners, checking driving licences, vehicle registration and a wearing helmet. If you don’t have a licence with you and not wearing a helmet the vehicle is impounded. Alternatively either or carries a 20,000 Rupiah fine, not only that they can make it a very time consuming process. They can make things very difficult for you.

Fire
Singaraja has a Fire Station, never seem a fire truck on the road, or a fire for that matter. I would invest in some fire extinguishers and smoke alarms. Sorry I can’t be more helpful.
I have seen these on the road, some seem to be from Government Hospitals others from private companies. When I have asked others about what to do in the event you might need one the answer has always been “get yourself to hospital”. Not very encouraging I’m sorry to say.
There are a number around the place, some specialising and other under general practice. For foreigners and depending on the Doctor the fee can carry a premium. The one we have seen doesn’t keep any records, despite having a good command of English, the practice is geared towards visitors, so still looking.
No problem here, have found a good Dentist, with excellent English, a pleasant and professional manner working in a well equipped and presented environment, well worth a trip into Singaraja.
There appears to be a good number of both local and private Hospitals and Clinic’s. The local clinic provided a good and quick service after a minor accident, just bear in mind the Doctor may not be there all day so some services may be limited. I had some tests done at a private clinic and received a good level of service. On the other hand I visited a friend in a local Hospital and couldn’t wait to get out the place. You need to check them out in your area should you be unfortunate enough to need them. Like the Doctor, still looking.
